Are COVID vaccines behind sudden deaths?
Here is what the checked sources say. Each title links to the original.
Assessment of Risk for Sudden Cardiac Death Among Adolescents and Young Adults After Receipt of COVID-19 Vaccine - Oregon, June 2021-December 2022
Oregon reviewed death certificates for 1,292 residents aged 16 to 30 who died of cardiac or undetermined causes, mid-2021 to end-2022, against state vaccination records. 30 were from COVID-19. Of 101 where a cardiac cause couldn't be ruled out, records were available for 88, and three came within 100 days of an mRNA dose (two from chronic conditions, one undetermined). No death certificate attributed death to vaccination. The authors said the data did not support a link with sudden cardiac death in previously healthy young people; it is a single-state review with small numbers.
Mortality risk after COVID-19 vaccination: A self-controlled case series study
Analyzed all deaths from December 2020 to August 2021 among members of eight US health systems, comparing each person's risk in the 2 to 4 weeks after a COVID-19 vaccine dose with other times. For the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, it did not find an increased risk of non-COVID death, death from any cause, or four types of cardiac-related death in those windows; estimates for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson were less precise. The method was designed to reduce bias that might have affected earlier studies.
Case Series of Thrombosis With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome After COVID-19 Vaccination-United States, December 2020 to August 2021
Shows that rare vaccine-caused deaths did happen. From reports to the US VAERS system, researchers confirmed 54 cases of a serious clotting disorder (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome) after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a reporting rate of about 3.8 per million doses (December 2020 to August 2021), mostly in women, median age 44.5. All were hospitalized and 15% died. Underreporting is a stated limitation. Only 3 cases followed mRNA vaccines (0.009 per million doses), which the authors judged to be background cases.
The film 'Died Suddenly' rehashes debunked claims and conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 vaccines
Reviews claims in the 2022 film "Died Suddenly". Science Feedback says US life insurers did report more deaths among working-age customers in 2021, but, citing AP News and PolitiFact, a high proportion were directly caused by COVID-19, and others may have resulted indirectly, such as from delayed care. Several people shown collapsing were alive, unvaccinated at the time, or died of other causes. Embalmers' "white clots" came without vaccination status or medical histories. The review notes some vaccines do carry rare clotting and heart-inflammation risks.
