Privacy

I don't save what you type unless you ask me to. Here is everything the site keeps and everyone else who handles it.

What's kept for every conversation

The site keeps one row in a database. It holds a random ID, the date, the time of your most recent message and how many messages you sent. It also notes whether you finished or shared the conversation and how many reports you sent. It also holds the topic of your concern (picked from the library's list) and your two slider numbers if you gave them. The row holds no conversation text and no IP address. There's no name, email or account either, because the site doesn't have accounts.

If you wait in line, your place is held by a random ticket number, your slider number, and the times you joined and last checked in.

These rows aren't deleted, because nothing in them points to a person.

What your browser holds

Your browser holds one cookie that keeps your conversation going. It expires after a day. If you wait in line, a second cookie holds your place for up to an hour. Neither one tracks you across other sites, and the site has no advertising or analytics trackers. Cloudflare's "Verify you are human" check may set a cookie of its own.

Limiting abuse

To stop one person from flooding the site, it counts requests against a scrambled version of your IP address. The scrambling changes every day, so yesterday's count can't be matched to today's without a secret key that only I hold. These counts are deleted within three days. The site never stores the IP address itself.

If you share your conversation

Sharing is off unless you tick the box at the end. If you do, the text of the conversation is saved so I can read it and improve the site. Before it's saved, email addresses and US-style phone numbers are stripped out, and an AI model replaces names, street addresses and small place names with "[removed]". That step can miss things, so please leave out anything that could identify you.

A shared conversation is kept for up to 12 months. You get a code when you share, and you can use it to delete the conversation at any time. The saved text is linked to the row described above, so your slider numbers are stored with it. I can't tell which shared conversation is yours without the code, so keep it somewhere safe.

If you report a problem

"This answer was wrong or unfair" saves the last question and answer, the sources shown and your note. "Something's broken on this site" saves just your note. Both go through the same removal step as shared conversations and are kept for up to 12 months. Reports aren't tied to you, so I may not be able to find one if you ask me to delete it.

Who else handles your information

Anthropic makes the AI. Every message you send goes to Anthropic to write the reply, check it, and do the removal step above. Anthropic says that by default it doesn't use messages sent through its API to train its models. It says it deletes them within 30 days, with exceptions. It can keep them longer to enforce its usage policy or when the law requires it. Messages that its automated safety systems flag can be kept for up to two years. How long Anthropic keeps data and whether it trains on it.

Cloudflare hosts the site, so it sees your IP address the way any web host does. Cloudflare also runs the "Verify you are human" check. That check looks at technical signals such as your IP address and browser type to tell people from bots. It doesn't read what you type. Cloudflare's privacy policy and its notice for the human check.

Sentry collects error reports. When something breaks, the site sends it a short error code and the part of the site that failed, so I can fix it. Those reports never include your words, your IP address or details about your browser. Sentry's privacy policy.

Nobody else gets anything. I don't sell or share your information, and only I can read shared conversations and reports.

Backups

The database is backed up every night to a computer I own. Each backup is deleted after 14 days. So a conversation you delete, or one that expires, can stay in a backup for up to 14 days before it's fully gone.

Questions

Use "Something's broken on this site" at the bottom of any page and write your question in the note. It reaches me directly. Since the form is anonymous, I can't write back, but I read these notes regularly and update this page when something is unclear.
